Description: A special film festival is organized by the Preveza Film Club to mark the celebrations in 1979 for the "International Year of the Child", on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the Declaration of the Rights of the Child endorsed by the UN on November 20, 1959. The films shown are not listed on the programme. It is rather like a four-page leaflet summarizing the problems confronted by children worldwide, aimed not only at informing and sensitising viewers to children's issues, but also at mobilizing them in the context of the film club activities. The emphasis is on the issues of children's education and entertainment, urging parents and children to turn to children's literature, cinematography and theatre. There are interesting statistics about children's mortality rate in Greece and current substandard conditions of hygiene in areas related to children's activities, such as sporting facilities, play grounds and school facilities.
